Awards and a Quick Hello

My crazy life continues. I am in the midst of getting the house and family ready for a two month excursion. That's where I've been hiding if any wondered.

It was completely unexpected, but I've had a little better than a month to plan for it. Still. It's not somewhere I really want to be going (back to Boca Raton for the summer - I'm pretty sure almost 30 years of my life was more than enough spent there. Blech.) Regardless, it is what it is. We are going. And the kids will love the beach, the pool, Mickey and the new Harry Potter area at Universal. I'll suck it up and be the adult - though I hate doing that (being an adult, I mean).

I hate the beach, too. Hate. It. Lived a mile from it my entire life and went as infrequently as possible. Mostly at night for parties in my teen years. We'll be staying less than a quarter mile from it and I know the kids will want to be there all the time. Suck it up, remember. Of course, the oil may come and I won't have to suck anything up cause nobody is sucking all that oil up :(

Of course, all that jumble means I will be pretty obscure around here until September. Yes, September!! I will really miss all of you. I'll check in from time to time, have a few posts scheduled already, and will comment on your blogs whenever I get the chance.

I've received some awards, and it's time to unhoard them before I go.

The remarkable and talented JP at Where Sky Meets Ground (isn't that a great name?) has given me the Journey Award. It means a lot coming from him. Thanks JP.

I'm going to pass the Journey Award to:

The Alliterative Allomorph
Spunk on a Stick
Writing in the Wilderness
Musings of a Moonlight Writer
Piedmont Writer
Southern Princess
Sharp Pen/Dull Sword
Cruising Altitude
...and this time concentrate
Portia Sisco

Okay, I admit, I'm going to cheat on this next one. I received the Versatile Blogger Award from Will Burke - another seriously great blog name - Fatherhood and Other Common Terrors. Thank you Will!
Rules: Thank the person that awarded you. Offer 7 tidbits about yourself. Pass it on to 15 people. Let them know you did.
I am short on time (laundry beckons!) so I am going to have to skip the links for this one (cheat, cheat, cheat). I apologize! Here are my 7 facts:
1. I hate the beach (see, I'm a cheater)
2. I would rather swim with sharks than fold laundry.
3. Packing doesn't bother me, but unpacking is tedious.
4. I'm more excited than the kids about going to Disney World!
5. I get horrifically seasick, but can't wait to get back out on the boat (guess the ocean's good for something after all)
6. Somehow, I have been married 17 years as of a couple days ago. Uh, I got married at 10. Yeah, that's it...!
7. Even though I'm a super-strict parent and nitpick on my kids way too much, I know I have two of the best kids in the world. I could go on forever, but suffice it to say, my kids rock.

Have a great summer everyone. I will say hi when I can!

Great list, Tara. I love doing laundry but hate putting it away! I let baskets and baskets of clean, folded clothing sit in my laundry room until my family complains. Fortunately we all have big wardrobes.

Have a fabulous time on your trip!

I'm with you on the beach. I grew up near Galveston, on the north side of the bay. The beach is sticky, icky, sunburny, salty, sweaty and freaking hot without a lick of shade.

I'm not sure I would say I ~hate~ the beach -- Galveston is not a great example of a "beach" -- but I sure never got beach fever like so many people claim, even in San Diego and along the west coast.

Enjoy your vacation!

I'm not a big beach fan either. Give me a lake or even better, a river, any day!

I'd rather fold laundry than swim with sharks, but it's definitely my least favorite household task. Blugh.

Thanks for the award, lady!

I hate everything about doing laundry. I hate switching it from the washer to the dryer, I hate getting it out of the dryer before things wrinkle, I hate folding it, I hate putting it all away where it belongs.

But I hate not having my favorite things clean, so alas, I do the washing and drying part. (not so much the rest of it)

I can't believe you hate the beach! That is one area where we are not soul sisters, my love. I don't think I've ever even met someone who doesn't like the beach or the sound of the waves.

I LOVE DISNEY, and we haven't been in almost 2 years. Waahhh. I'm jealous! Soak up some magic for me. Also, I am uber jealous that you're going to see HP World...I think we'll be going next year, though, depending on the reviews.

Thanks for the award my sweet friend.

Safe travels.
Love,
Lola

I grew up on the beach too and I can't wait to go back. We'll miss you when you're gone. But as the Beach Boys say, "See you in September!" Have fun! Miss you already!

Oh and thanks for my award!
I love the beach. The Pacific Ocean specifically. my life would be complete if I could move back to CA. Have a great summer!
Flat sandy beaches don't do much for me, either.
Married at ten? Well done!

...how is it even possible to hate the beach? Is it not a swimming beach? Because swimming is AWESOME

Aw, thank you so much!

And i agree with Karen - the Pacific coast beats Atlantic beaches any day!

I'm not a big beach person, either. Oh, I love seeing pictures of it. And when I was in Padre it was beautiful.

But I prefer my swimming water to be clean, filtered, and critter-free just like the pool in my backyard!

Try to have some fun while your there. :)

Ugh - sticky saltwater sand...
big things in the water that can eat you...(yeah, I saw Jaws at a very impressionable age).

Being a foothills/mountains kinda girl, the beach does not do it for me, either. Give me a nice clean mountain lake and fresh water anytime.

As a NIN-lover, perhaps you can take a little Trent with you to make the days at the beach more tolerable. Have you checked out the new EP by How To Destroy Angels? It's available for FREE download on their website.

Thanks for the award, by the way. I'll start working on my lists right now!

Safe travels - blog ya when you get back!

Great list :D But how can anyone not like the beach D: I lived in Hawaii so it seems unnatrual to me lol, but I can see why it is at times a hassle to be covered in sand, or to find it days later in an ear or other crevice. Congrats of the awards!

I hope you have a lovely trip!

Not a big beach fan either. Sand, sweat, sunburn, no thanks. I prefer to vacation in the mountains where its cooler. But the wife loves Disney so we've been to Florida more times than I care to count. *sigh*

Thank you for the award! What incredible company to be included with. :)

I hope you have a great summer, too! And I hope all that oil doesn't ruin the beach for your kids. :(

Ha ha-- put me down as another beach hater. I like to look at it but I'm just not very fond of the sand, saltwater, and sunburn (seems like I've always gotten a sunburn when I go to the beach). Have a great time during the summer.

I hope you have a great summer, even though you're not very excited about Boca Raton! I haven't been "home" in about five years, so I totally get that.
Gee, you signed up to do the bad boy blogest. I was looking forward to reading your entry, too. Roland
