Kindness, Friendship and Good Deeds

I hadn't planned on posting today, but this story deserves to be relayed.

I've mentioned the Compuserve Forum before; it's an incredible place where I have learned heaps of writing lessons, and skill. Not all that long ago a long-time and vauable member informed us that her [once in remission] cancer had returned. She was moving with her beloved cats back in with family. Her biggest worry was over her cats: how they would adjust; what would happen if she didn't make it this time...

Unfortunately a few weeks ago, she passed away. Through her close friend, word got to the forum that one of her cats hadn't found a home. Likely, it would be sent to a shelter and, being quite old, would probably meet an untimely death.

This is where the title of my post comes in.

A forum member who lives in FL (the cat is in CA) offered to take in the cat if the friend could find a way to get it to her. Another forum member from CA offered to fly cross-country with the kitty! Through an unbelievable series of events (and a 300+post thread) enough money/air miles were donated to fly the member and cat first class to deliver it to its new home.

Now, I know there are people out there who will be thinking: It's just a cat. And an old one at that. But, it's not about the cat. It's about Lauri, the woman who passed away, and her character. A character so beautiful that people are willing to go above and beyond to help her even after her death. I am truly overwhelmed by the love and generosity displayed in this situation.

Wow, that is amazing! What awesome friends. It's hard to lose someone, but it's amazing to have meant so much to so many people. A very sweet way to remember her ...

Awww...what a lovely story. It's so nice to hear how her friends pitched in to take care of her cats--something that meant a lot to her.

I think the deeper into internet technology we get, the more these online relationships flourish and people stop thinking you're weird for having these supposed-friends.

I've had two online friends for 12 years, one in TX, one in Canada. I still haven't met the Canadian, but my husband and I have full intentions of visiting when we go to Nova Scotia for vacation...sometime. And the one from TX, who was my best friend through my teen years, I finally met as a junior in college. It was amazing, and even if we eventually drift apart, I'll never forget those friendships.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful story!

I look for those little stories that make me believe that there is some hope yet in this crazy self-centered world.
