The Final Countdown...er, Music Blogfest

Reposting an oldie. Wow, I'm not sure if all these would still be in my top 10, but I'd be hard pressed to choose something else over any of them. 

This one is hosted by the spectacularly wonderful, awesome, superb and all-around nice, Alex J. Cavanaugh. Well, I have no idea if he's actually a nice guy or just plays one on the blogs, but he's nice to me and that's all that counts.

Okay, I've begun my vegan diet again, so I'm hopped up on raw veggies and nuts. Or maybe my fowl mood of late is drawing forth my whacked-out creative side. (Possibly I shouldn't have cut out the chicken...) In reality, I think it's all Alex's fault. He brought up this sweet music fest and I've been listening to even more music than usual this past week or so. And youtube searching like a fiend (which means serious Brandon Boyd overload. Serious.).

Music is my drug of choice. (All I wanted was a Pepsi. Just one Pepsi.) Whether upper or downer, goes with whatever I'm listening to at the moment and since I've been listening to so much, my mood is all over right now. Still, I'm having trouble narrowing my favorite 10 songs of all time. I think I like music too much to do that. It's like trying to pick my favorite kid - which, quite frankly, waffles between who's being the sweetest and who's doing the most chores.

But I digress.

I most absolutely definitely, and with utmost certainty have a numero uno favorite; it's just the other 9 I'm lacking. But, for Alex I'll do my best.

I'm lyrically driven, and in most of the choices I think that's fairly obvious. Click on the artists/songs for links to youtube videos.

10. This is not even a band that would make my top 10 favorite band list. But, they are hands down one of the most talented group of musicians around. I'd never deny it, and they'd be in my top 5 most talented - probably top 3. Life is mine, I live it my way. So, open your mind for a different view:

9. This one has two special ties. One happens to be the fact that it was my high school grad song. Yeah, I remember those days well. Which is surprising for someone so old.
Skid Row, I Remember You

8. This band was incredible live. The song  is what I do: ride the whims of my mind, commanding in another world, hearing and seeing a magic new dimension.

7. Maybe I'm all messed up, but there is something about this song, and Trent Reznor, that resonates through my soul. He manages to write some serious undertones wrapped in [what on the surface appears to be] hot, and often, in-your-face raw sex. And, for me, his voice oozes sensuality in the majority of his songs. Maybe not so much this one, though. It [used to be] the prompt for my blog title, so of course it made the list.
Nine Inch Nails, The Only Time

6. I'm not even entirely sure whom to credit with this next song, but I can't get enough of it. It's on the tribute album to the lead singer of Snot, who died in a car accident when they were on the verge of Making It. I *think* the band wrote all the songs on there, but this one features Brandon Boyd on vocals.

5. I could listen to the Galore album from these guys for days on end. One of the best ever love songs, and so aptly titled.

4. The only female act to make my list. I just noticed that. Interesting. I love lots of woman-written songs. Guess they just aren't my absolute favorites. These gals sure are. They're magic, in fact.

3. The only "new" band on the list! Not that I don't love a lot of new stuff, even consider some my favorite, but they've yet to stand the test of time. This one will. I know it.
Shinedown, Sound of Madness

2. You all knew it was coming, right? I could never, ever exclude Incubus from the list. In all honesty, they would hold at least 5 spots on top ten. It's not obsession; I really love their music that much. My biggest problem is which to pick. My favorite changes with mood: Admiration, Just a Phase, Warning, Pardon Me, Privilege, Circles, Nowhere Fast...But this one goes with my every mood.
Incubus, The Warmth

1. There are no words. John says them all. This is, undeniably, my Favorite All Time Song. It has been since I can remember, and it always will be. Just Imagine, for real.
