Agoraphobia
I read the new today, and everything they say just makes me want to stay inside and wait.
This week has been pretty overwhelming news wise. I feel so small only being able to sit in my home and simply watch the compounding tragedy in Japan. I can't even begin to fathom what those people are going through. I'm so thankful my family and friends are safe at this moment.
Instead of focusing on the bad, I thought I'd try to offer my small hand at some good, in way of help for those suffering.
Some authors are gathering together to help Japan. Here is a link to Rachel Harrie's new blog, Write Hope. I know I've seen others, if anyone out there has links, please add them in comments.
Incubus (the band quoted above, btw), has the incredible Make Yourself Foundation set up to help all sorts of great causes. It's no surprise that almost immediately, they updated their page to include donations to aid Japan.
I also thought I'd share some awesome author news that's been happening all around the blogosphere and beyond.
Carolina Valdez Miller and a Compuserve forumite, Beth, acquired agents. Yay! for them. It's so well-deserved!
Kristen and Linda G., both got book deals. Not only book deals. They both got two-book deals. Huge, massive, giant congrats to both.
Beyond the depression that has consumed me, I've had a busy/stressful time with a bunch of other things this week so I haven't been around to the blogs. I should be back on Monday. You've been warned ;-)
Please friends, share some more good news, or helpful links, in the comments. And have a super-terrific-safe-awesome weekend!

Take care

But thanks for the congrats & link to my blog. I'm still a bit overwhelmed by that news, too, though obviously in a much better way. :)
Take care.
Kitty - Ah. The weekend. Even better, hubby is taking the kids to our cabin for the weekend, so it will all about writing [in peace] for me. Sweet!
We all must have hope, without hope what is left.
Yvonne.
I think the way to handle the sadness and grief over the devastation is to:
1) Give to the red cross and humane society, etc., earmarked for Japan. Even $5 can make a difference. (we've given a couple hundred so far, but I plan to also bid in the auction, etc. to help further)
2) Use this tragedy to gain fresh perspective...life is short. Sometimes we don't know just HOW short. Thus, LIVE LIFE FULLY, enjoy the little things, let people you love KNOW how much you love them. Do the things you've been meaning to do...the more spectacular the better.
3) Send Japan lots of positive energy, thoughts and prayers.
Also...CONGRATS to Linda and Carol and all our friends with good news. :)
Know that I love you, my friend.
Hugs,
Lola

Also suggest your giving be to large established groups who have the means to distribute aid. Or whose aid mission is PLAINLY stated. I've heard a lot of tales of scams this week. Don't be a victim.
Like many others, it's been difficult to focus this week, but at least I've been a bit distracted because it's Spring Break Week in Texas.
Congrats to those with new agents and book deals. Yay!!!
Alex's story gave me absolute chills!
Hope your weekend is lovely :)
